Consulate. Applicants, who are outside of the United States, must pick up their visa at a United States consulate and apply for a J-1 visa well in advance of the date they are due to commence training. Obtaining an appointment for an interview can take as long as thirty (30) days. Programs may hold a position for up to sixty (60) days for individuals encountering difficulty securing the visa from the consulate. After sixty (60) days, the program may withdraw the offer of the position. OAA will work with the program to notify all appropriate parties of the offer withdrawal, including Human Resources, the NRMP, and ECFMG.
