Common Concept Base Sample Clauses
Common Concept Base. Status and Forward Look
1. There is some variation in the understanding of key concepts and terms among partners. For example, there are slightly different understandings of concepts such as validation, verification and emergence between the partners experienced in architectural modelling and those from a formal methods background. There are also differences between the industry users running the case studies and between these partners and the research providers. A participatory approach to building a concept base is needed to ensure that common understanding can be reached during the next phases of the project.
2. The SoS Engineering literature is broad and exhibits variable depth of coverage (in simulation versus verification, for example). There is a need for a comprehensive review of the current literature, especially with respect to model-based approaches, not only for COMPASS, but for the wider computing community.
3. The developers of methods and tools developed in COMPASS require medium- and small-scale SoS pilot studies that can be used to validate their products rapidly during development without requiring the slower iteration of the Theme 4 Industry Case Studies. These should illustrate core SoS concepts, but without the complexity of “real life” deployments. The aims of work on the Concept Base during Phase II are therefore:
1. To stabilise the core concepts and develop their descriptions.
2. Develop a comprehensive survey of the state of the art in SoS Engineering as an extensive literature review.
3. Develop a repertoire of medium- and smaller-scale examples that can be used to illustrate fundamental concepts Aim 1 is addressed by developing the emerging concept base placed on the internal project wiki. This will be validated through targeted discussions during Phase II, and also at all project plenaries. It will be backed up by a standard project glossary. The partners have agreed to release a public version of the concept base after validation in Phase III of the project. Aim 2 is addressed by a team of authors (▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇, Nielsen, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇) within and outside COMPASS. The review is to be submitted to ACM Computing Surveys in August 2012. Aim 3 is addressed by developing a group of pilot studies within the technical work packages of Themes 2 and 3. These are smaller than the Theme 4 industry case studies and can be used by the developers of methods and tools as a basis for more rapid evaluation of features of the modell...
