Chromebook Care. Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook they have been issued by the school. Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be reported to a teacher or administrator as soon as possible so they can be taken care of properly. Students should never leave their Chromebook unattended except locked in their hallway locker. If the Chromebook is damaged, lost, or stolen, the student is responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or for its fair market value on the date of loss.
Chromebook Care. Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook they have been issued by the school. Chromebooks that are broken, or fail to work properly, must be submitted to the IT Department of their school as soon as possible so that they can be taken care of properly. Do not take district owned Chromebooks to an outside computer service for any type of repairs or maintenance. ● No food or drink is allowed next to your Chromebook while it is in use. ● Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted carefully into the Chromebook. ● Never transport your Chromebook with the power cord plugged in. Never store your Chromebook in your carry case or backpack while plugged in. ● Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, or stickers ● Do not expose the Chromebook to extreme heat or cold. It should remain at room temperature. ● Vents CANNOT be covered. ● Chromebooks should never be le7 in a car or any unsupervised area. ● Students are responsible for bringing completely charged Chromebooks for use each school day. ● Transport Chromebooks with care. Lids should always be closed and tightly secured when moving. ● Case use is recommended when transporting the Chromebook to and from the buildings and from classroom to classroom. ● Do not place the device near magnets or anything with high electric current. ● Keep liquids away from the Chromebook. Do not use cleaners, sprays, alcohol, ammonia or abrasives on the Chromebook. Clean the Chromebook with a so7, lint-free cloth. There is no need to touch the screen. Keep your fingers on the keyboard and touchpad. ●Chromebook screens can be easily damaged! The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure on the screen. ● Do not lean or put pressure on the top of the Chromebook when it is closed. ● Do not store the Chromebook with the screen in the open position. ● Do not place anything near the Chromebook that could put pressure on the screen. ● Do not place anything in a carrying case or backpack that will press against the cover. ● Do not poke the screen with anything that will mark or scratch the screen surface. ● Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, or disks). ● Clean the screen with a so7, dry microfiber cloth or anti-static cloth.

Students will be held responsible for maintaining their individual Chromebooks and keeping them in good working order. ⚫ Chromebook batteries must be charged and ready for school each day. ⚫ Chromebooks that malfunction or are damaged must be reported to the administration. The school district will be responsible for repairing Chromebooks that malfunction. Chromebooks that have been damaged from student misuse, neglect or are intentionally damaged will be repaired with cost being borne by the student. Students will be responsible for the entire cost of repairs to Chromebooks that are intentionally damaged or lost. ⚫ Chromebook damage: Students may be responsible for all damage as circumstanceswarrant. ⚫ Chromebooks that are stolen must be reported immediately to the Eastchester Police Department (the police report must be submitted) and to school administration.

If a student’s device is requested for an inspection, passwords to unlock the device must be immediately provided. Norfolk Middle School staff reserve the right to confiscate the device for any reason at any time if inappropriate materials are found on the device. ● Students will be held responsible for maintaining their individual Chromebooks and keeping them in good working order. ● Chromebook batteries must be charged and ready for school each day. ● No labels or stickers may be applied to the device. ● Chromebooks that malfunction or are damaged must be reported to a teacher, administrator or district “tech team” personnel immediately. All damages are fixed in our Tech Office at Norfolk Middle School. ● Chromebooks that have been damaged from student misuse, neglect or are accidentally damaged will be repaired. Students and their families are responsible for damage incurred while the device is checked out to the student. The cost for various repairs is listed elsewhere in this document. Students may be provided a temporary Chromebook while their assigned device is being repaired. ● Chromebooks that are stolen must be reported immediately to school staff.

Programs that allow students to access the internet, online chat and email, should be used in a responsible manner. Breaches of the user agreement will result in disciplinary measures. Students must be aware of and abide by the Learning Technologies User Agreement [Section 5]. Failure to abide by the user agreement could result in disciplinary action, or in the event of damage, a financial cost to parent/carers.

The student must report any case of theft, vandalism, accident, repairs needed, and/or any other issue with the Chromebook(s) working properly to the teacher as soon as possible. Students and parents/guardians agree that they will not attempt to repair the Chromebook(s). ● No food or drink is allowed near the Chromebooks. ● Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted carefully into Chromebooks. ● Chromebooks should not be exposed to extreme temperatures (hot or cold). ● Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, or stickers. ● Heavy objects should never be placed on top of Chromebooks. ● Do not place the Chromebook on an uneven surface where it might accidentally fall. ● Do not block air flow when the Chromebook is on. While your Chromebook does not get overly hot as a traditional laptop might, it does need to breathe. ● Chromebooks shall not be used where a cord could be a tripping hazard (power cord, projector, etc.).
