Charterparty Clause Samples

A Charterparty clause defines the contractual agreement between a shipowner and a charterer for the hire of a vessel or its cargo space. It outlines key terms such as the duration of the charter, payment of hire or freight, responsibilities for loading and unloading, and allocation of risks and liabilities between the parties. For example, it may specify whether the charter is for a specific voyage or a set period, and detail who is responsible for fuel costs or port charges. The core practical function of this clause is to establish clear terms governing the use of the vessel, thereby minimizing disputes and ensuring both parties understand their rights and obligations.
