CAREER DEVELOPMENT FUNDS Clause Samples
The Career Development Funds clause establishes provisions for allocating financial resources to support the professional growth and skill enhancement of employees. CAREER DEVELOPMENT FUNDS a) The University shall make an annual commitment of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) to be administered by the Joint Committee on Training and Development. At the conclusion of each fiscal year an accounting of expenditures will be provided to the Union. The unspent balance at the end of any fiscal year may be carried forward to the following year, provided the total funds unspent at any time do not exceed twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00).
b) In addition to (a) above, Vancouver Island University will contribute sixteen thousand dollars ($16,000.00) to the training fund for the 2006/07 budget year and effective 2007/08 will also contribute, on an ongoing basis, one percent (1%) of CUPE payroll gross earnings to the fund.
c) The Committee shall operate as follows:
i) The Committee shall report in writing to the parties in November and May.
ii) All decisions of the Committee shall be by consensus.
iii) Expenditures made from the funds shall be approved by the Committee prior to implementation. Cost center reports shall be provided to the Committee members monthly.
iv) Courses paid for by the fund shall be attended by CUPE members first. Approval to attend shall not be unreasonably withheld. In the event vacancies are available after CUPE registrations close, other Vancouver Island University employees may attend providing they pay fees set by the Committee.
v) The Employer shall pay all fees and expenses for courses requested by the Employer.

During the term of this 2015-2018 MOU, Management agrees to provide an appropriation of $10,000 for a total of $120,000 to the Personnel Department for the exclusive purpose of funding training programs for members of this Unit. (*Note: the fund currently has $110,000 available for use). Any training proposed must be of direct value to the City and will provide special knowledge and skills to the trainee which cannot be provided through other available in-service programs. The parties agree to reopen this Article on or after July 1, 2016 to determine whether additional funding is available for training for this Unit.
