Brainstorming. We will conduct brainstorming sessions with the design committee focusing on collaboratively developing the team’s collective goals for the project. We will employ an intuitive workshop based approach with your stakeholders to develop the programming document. We then conducted a threat and risk assessment workshop specific to your proposed building and site with all constituents, from which we developed the basis of design for all building systems. We will use the information gained going forward to expedite the design of your facility. Please review the Scope and Report Content portions of this Section for more information about this.
Brainstorming. ‌ Brainstorming is the most widely used method to discuss ideas in a group. In his book, ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ (1957), as read in ▇▇▇▇ et al. (2016), listed five guidelines that ▇▇▇▇▇▇ the outcome: (1) postpone all judgment of ideas, (2) encourage wild ideas, (3) aim for quantity over quality, (4) build on ideas, and (5) every person and every idea has equal value. Subsequently, individuals preparing the session independently would also have a positive impact on the final outcome. There are numerous benefits associated with brainstorming, for example, the fact that one can build on the idea of someone else. On top of that, it has been determined that the number of ideas that eventually come out is significantly higher than when one brainstorms alone (▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇, & ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ , 2016). Nevertheless, this is contradicted in a study by ▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al. (1993) as they concluded that there is an illusion of group productivity. Furthermore, when the design team consists of several extrovert team members, there is a great chance that he or she will take the lead and break rule number 5. This can result in the suppression of others and thus their ideas. To overcome this a good preparation can be helpful such that less talkative people have also something to share. During the brainstorming, providing post-its to write ideas on can also overcome this potential issue. By making the ideas visible on a blackboard a chain of innovative ideas can be created (Tschimmel, 2012). In this respect, ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ (2005) talks about the role of a sketch as a ‘shared visual context’ during communication. This would greatly facilitate brainstorming because the parties can see the idea, though the focus is no longer on explaining the idea itself, but rather on finding connections and combinations that could be interesting.
