BOTSWANA. On September 30, 1966, Bechuanaland Protec- torate became the independent state of Bot- swana. In a note dated October 6, 1966 to the Sec- retary-General of the United Nations the Presi- dent of Botswana made a statement reading in part as follows: ‘‘As regards bilateral treaties validly concluded by the Government of the United Kingdom on behalf of the former Bech- uanaland Protectorate, or validly applied or ex- tended by the said Government to the territory of the former Bechuanaland Protectorate, the Government of Botswana is willing to continue to apply within its territory, on a basis of reci- procity, the terms of all such treaties for a pe- riod of twenty-four months from the date of independence (i.e., until October 1, 1968) un- less abrogated or modified earlier by mutual consent. At the expiry of that period, the Gov- ernment of Botswana will regard such of these treaties which could not by the application of the rules of customary international law be re- garded as otherwise surviving, as having termi- nated. ‘‘It is the earnest hope of the Government of Botswana that during the aforementioned pe- riod of twenty-four months, the normal proc- esses of diplomatic negotiations will enable it to reach satisfactory accord with the States concerned upon the possibility of the continu- ance or modification of such treaties. ‘‘The Government of Botswana is conscious that the above declaration applicable to bilat- eral treaties cannot with equal facility be ap- plied to multilateral treaties. Era Sakti Wiraforestama mendapatkan lahan tanah yang diinginkannya dengan menggunakan tanah xxxxx masyarakat kecamatan Xxxx Xxxx. Penggunaan tanah masyarakat adat Xxxx Xxxx untuk keperluan usaha perkebunan PT. Era Sakti Wiraforestama bukanlah terjadi dengan sendirinya xxx penguasaan semena-mena, melainkan diawali dengan suatu perjanjian kepada xxxxx masyarakat pemilik tanah tersebut. Perjanjian yang diadakan antara PT. Era Sakti Wiraforestama dengan masyarakat adat Xxxx Xxxx adalah perjanjian penggunaan tanah untuk keperluan usaha, yang dituangkan dalam surat perjanjian. Dalam perjanjian yang diadakan, ditentukan xxx xxx kewajiban masing-masing pihak, umumnya hak dari pihak PT.
