ASPHALT MATERIALS. The asphalt material to be used in the mix shall conform to the following cited specifications: RC 250, RC 800, or RC 3000 AASHTO M 81 MC 250, MC 800, or MC 3000 AASHTO M 82 Asphalt binder (PG64-22) may be blended with a cut-back asphalt or a liquefier provided a quality mix is produced. Also, a cut-back asphalt emulsion may be used provided an excellent mix results. (a) Submission of Job Mix Formula After the contract has been awarded, the supplier shall submit a copy of the proposed job mix formula (that conforms to Section 405.2.3, Composition of Asphalt Concrete Surface Course, of the 2007 Edition of the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s Standard Specifications for Highway Construction) to the Director of Maintenance office and to the Office of Materials and Research in Columbia, SC. The Resident Maintenance Engineer must submit an aggregate and asphalt sample to the Office of Materials and Research for verification. (b) Mixture The cold laid asphalt concrete surface mixture shall be a Type 2 meeting the requirements as specified in Section 405.2.3 of the 2007 Edition of the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s Standard Specifications for Highway Construction.
