Area Coverage. While most of the urbanized sections of SunLine’s service area are adequately served, there are some areas which are provided with more service than others. When service is proposed, the new line will be evaluated based on its proximity to other lines and the necessity of its implementation based on area coverage and service productivity standards. Areas that are not currently served or are underserved, but warrant new or enhanced service will be evaluated to receive new transit service when funding becomes available or through efficiency improvements of the existing transit lines. Growth in the ADA paratransit service area must also be addressed as part of any new service planning. Funding of these types of services must be prioritized along with improvements to existing transit services, based on available funding. Staff also considers the density and demographic characteristics of a given service area as an important determinant for providing transit success. In tying area coverage standards to population and employment densities, SunLine recognizes the need to provide more service within more highly developed areas, and often considers this factor as part of the service development process.
