Loss of Service and Seniority. A Nurse shall lose all service and seniority and shall be deemed to have been terminated if she:
Loss of Service and Seniority. An employee shall lose all service and seniority and shall be deemed to have terminated if he: leaves of his own accord; is discharged and the discharge is not reversed through the grievance or arbitration procedure; has been laid off without recall pursuant to Article for twenty-four (24) months. is absent from scheduled work for a period of three (3) or more consecutive working days, without notifying the Hospital of such absence and providing a reason satisfactory to the Hospital; fails to return to work (subject to the provisions of upon termination of an authorized leave of absence without satisfactory reason or utilizes a leave of absence, without permission, for purposes other than that for which the leave was granted; fails upon being notified of a recall to signify his intention to return within five (5) calendar days after he has received the notice of recall mailed by registered mail to the last known address according to the records of the Hospital and fails to report to work within ten calendar days after he has received the notice of recall or such further period of time as may be agreed upon by the parties; is absent due to illness or disability for a period of thirty (30) months, unless he has less than six (6) months' service at the time the illness or disability commenced and is not eligible for long-term disability benefits. If the employee has less than six months' service at the time the illness or disability commenced and is not eligible for long-term disability benefits, this provision will apply after an absence equal to his length of service at the time the absence commenced. Seniority is a principle of granting preference to employees for promotion, transfers, demotions, layoffs and recall after layoffs, and all matters of seniority in accordance with length of accumulative service, but only when all other qualifications necessary to fill the requirements of the job are equal. Seniority means the relative ranking of the employees as determined by the respective length of accumulated service with the Hospital.
