Fire fighter definition

Fire fighter means any person employed by the state or any political subdivision as a member or officer of a fire depart- ment or a member of a volunteer department, including the state fire marshal and deputies.
Fire fighter means a member, including a volunteer member and a member who is paid on call, of an organized fire department that is responsible for, or is in a capacity that includes responsibility for, the extinguishment of fires, the directing of the extinguishment of fires, the prevention and detection of fires, and the enforcement of the general fire laws of this state. Fire fighter does not include a person whose job description, duties, or responsibilities do not include direct involvement in fire suppression.
Fire fighter means any person employed by this state or any political subdivision of this state as a member or officer of a fire department whose duties include fire fighting or fire fighting training or a member of a volunteer fire department whose duties include fire fighting or fire fighting training.

  • No matter concerning the layoff, discipline or termination of a probationary Fire Fighter shall be subject to the grievance procedure.

Fire fighter or “fire fighters” shall mean only the members of a fire department who have passed a regular mental and physical civil service examination for fire fighters and who shall have been duly appointed to such position. Such members shall include fire fighters, probationary fire fighters, lieutenants, captains, and other senior officers who have been so employed for the duty of fighting fires.
