Vertical Movement. Employees covered by this Agreement will move vertically on the salary schedule provided that they have completed the required service in the prior year. Employees may not move more than one vertical step per year. An employee who worked less than one semester in the prior year will not be eligible for vertical movement on the salary schedule. Employees who are at the final level in a column on the salary schedule will not be eligible for further vertical movement unless they move horizontally in accordance with Section 5.3 of this Agreement. Beginning with the 2002-2003-contract year, all staff members who are frozen at the bottom of the MA+45 column of the salary schedule will be given an additional 1.5% of the base salary every year they are at the last step in this column. The consequence of this action changes the last step in the MA+45 column so that it represents a 6% increase over the step prior to it. The costs for this benefit have been included in the negotiated agreement since 2002-2003.

Employees will not be given credit for experience when absent from their duties due to sabbatical leave or extended medical leave. Employees who are re-employed by the District under the terms and conditions of the District's Reduction-in-Force policy will not receive credit for experience due to their right to recall. Note - Extended medical leave is medical leave whereby an employee is absent from their assigned duties for more than half of the contract year. Employee(s) who are required to be absent from their assigned duties under the condition of military leave will be granted credit on the experience scale for such leave only if the District is required to do so by law.

Vertical Movement. Each teacher shall be entitled to one (1) vertical step of salary schedule advancement (provided a cell on the salary schedule exists to accommodate such advancement) for each year in which the employee completes ninety (90) or more working days. A working day shall include days of full- or part-time service, paid sick leave days, paid worker compensation days and days the employee reports to work and is paid. Beginning with the 2001-2002 school year, teachers who work half time or more will be given a full year of salary schedule credit. Teachers who work less than half time will be given a half year of salary schedule credit. Any teachers employed prior to the 2001-2002 school year will continue to be given a full year of salary schedule credit for any part of a year worked.
