Peer Mentoring. Licensed mentors are selected according to standards established by the Professional Development Committee (PDC). Standards will include the following: • Defined Mentoring Academy Training • Due process status of the mentor • Posting of the position and mentor application for the position • Other standards as defined by the PDC Appointment of mentors to probationary teachers will be made by the building principal. Peer Mentoring. This program will support California licensed and license-exempt Family Child Care Providers through a structured and staffed peer mentorship program which will enable experienced educators to provide connection, support, and knowledge transfer to their peers. The program will be offered statewide with a goal of training 100 licensed providers and 20 license-exempt providers as mentors. The cohort-based training provides meaningful leadership and professional development and includes a community of practice for ongoing support and learning. The cohort will provide information regarding the role of the mentor to provide ongoing support and feedback to their mentees for agreed-upon goals using rubrics and other assessment tools. Incentives are provided to mentors for attending training and working with mentees. The program has a goal of peer mentorship to 2500 licensed child care providers and 500 license-exempt providers in a variety of early childhood and other relevant topics. Incentives are provided to mentees based on hours of participation. The implementation of this program by ESF will include start-up costs, eligibility screening, help desk assistance, and recruitment. Peer Mentoring. Pursuant to RCW 74.39A.330, beginning on January 1, 2010, the Training Partnership shall prepare to offer a peer mentoring program to all new individual providers by July 1, 2011. The purpose of the mentoring program is to provide general information about serving as an individual provider and to assist the mentee in problem solving around work related challenges faced by individual providers. Mentors will not infringe on the rights of the consumer to select, hire, fire or instruct the mentee in the performance of the individual provider’s duties, or with the case manager’s exercise of his or her responsibilities. Mentors shall not discuss confidential information about the consumer who employs a mentee without a written release of information from that consumer. The Employer shall not be responsible for employing, paying, tracking or verifying hours of mentor work. To be mentors, individual providers must have completed all applicable required training appropriate to their date of hire, plus peer mentorship training. Prior to appointment, mentors must meet the same qualifications as an individual provider and must meet all other qualifications set forth by the Partnership. Once selected, peer mentors will complete training before being assigned to mentor up to ten (10) new workers. Peer mentors will be eligible to receive continuing education credit for mentor training, while mentees’ mentoring hours count towards satisfaction of basic training requirements.

Peer Mentoring. Student Services and Employability & Enterprise are working with the Student Experience team and Students’ Union to recruit a small group (8-10) of student volunteers to become Peer Mentors. They are looking to identify factors that affect student achievement e.g. stress and subsequently develop and pilot activities, positive messages and tools to help students address these issues. The mentors will also promote the support available. Academic staff will be informed that the Peer Mentors are available to come into the classroom and present these activities to their students.
