The MDT (Minimum Down Time) clause defines the minimum period that a system, equipment, or service must remain non-operational before certain contractual remedies or obligations are triggered. In practice, this clause is often used in service level agreements or maintenance contracts to specify that only outages exceeding a set duration—such as four hours—will count toward penalties or service credits. By establishing a threshold for what constitutes significant downtime, the MDT clause helps prevent minor or brief interruptions from resulting in disproportionate consequences, ensuring that both parties focus on addressing and compensating for more substantial service failures.
