BIRTHING CENTER. A Facility which mainly provides care and treatment for women during uncomplicated pregnancy, routine full-term delivery, and the immediate post-partum period. It must: provide full-time Skilled Nursing Care by or under the supervision of Xxxxxx; be staffed and equipped to give emergency care; and have written back-up arrangements with a local Hospital for emergency care. It must: carry out its stated purpose under all relevant state and local laws; or be approved for its stated purpose by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care; or be approved for its stated purpose by Medicare. A Facility is not a Birthing Center, for the purpose of this Contract, if it is part of a Hospital.
BIRTHING CENTER. A birthing center is a freestanding or institution-affiliated outpatient maternity care program which principally provides a planned course of outpatient prenatal care and outpatient childbirth service limited to low-risk pregnancies; excludes care for high-risk pregnancies; limits childbirth to the use of natural childbirth procedures; and provides immediate newborn care.
BIRTHING CENTER. Shall be defined as any facility, other than the mother's usual place of residence, that is staffed, equipped and operated for the purpose of providing prenatal care, delivery, immediate postpartum and newborn care rendered within 24 hours after delivery for low risk women and their newborns.
BIRTHING CENTER. A "Birthing Center" is an institution which is legally organized to offer room and board, skilled nursing services and services of a certified nurse or midwife to expectant mothers. A qualified Birthing Center has one or more nurses on duty at all times, under the supervision on a 24-hour basis of a Physician or a Registered Nurse. A Physician must be under contract to be available at all times; medical records must be maintained on all patients, and there must be agreement with Hospitals for immediate acceptance of patients requiring Hospital confinement on an inpatient basis.
BIRTHING CENTER. The Health Plan shall provide a birthing center, licensed under Chapter 383, F.S. that is accessible to low risk Enrollees.
