BEGINNING TEACHERS. 1. Beginning teachers shall be provided with specific teaching conditions to help them in their adjustment to teaching. The specific conditions shall include, but not be limited to a teaching assignment wherein: a. the most demanding classes are not their responsibility, and b. the number of subject preparations are kept to a minimum. 2. The Board and Union shall jointly design mentoring and induction programs.

BEGINNING TEACHERS. Secondary level Mentors will receive release time of an average of 40% of their teaching load, depending on their caseload.
BEGINNING TEACHERS a. Beginning Teachers in the program will receive support and technical assistance that reflect the developmental nature of their initial experiences in the classroom. b. A Mentor will be assigned to each Beginning Teacher based on relevant area of licensure or grade level. c. During the school year, Beginning Teachers will meet regularly with Mentors to discuss their progress and individual needs; be observed by, and receive feedback from, their Mentor frequently, and complete required documentation specified by the program. They also will have the option to work with their Mentors during professional leave days. d. Beginning Teachers who are assigned a Mentor within the first nine weeks of the semester, will receive credit for a full semester of mentoring. Official assignment is done by notification to the Mentor by the Mentor Program Coordinator. 1.) If a Mentor is assigned after the first nine weeks of a given semester, the Beginning Teacher will be required to complete one additional semester of mentorship the following year, for a total of two semesters. e. All level 1 teachers will be offered an opportunity to attend the summer New Teacher Academy
BEGINNING TEACHERS. In discussing staff assignments as per Article E.13.2 and making assignments as per Article E.13.1, special consideration shall be given to creating, within the school, teaching conditions which will help beginning teachers adjust successfully to teaching.
BEGINNING TEACHERS. 1. Wherever practicable, beginning teachers shall be provided with teaching conditions designed to assist them in being successful in their first (1st) year of employment. 2. Considerations may include, but are not limited to, the following: a. a carefully designed teaching assignment whereby the most demanding classes are not the responsibility of a beginning teacher; b. the assignment of a reasonable number of subject preparations, to beginning teachers, if possible, within their area of training; c. a comprehensive orientation to the school, its facilities and operations. 3. The parties shall request the Professional Development Committee to explore further strategies to assist beginning teachers, including the development of a mutually acceptable mentor program.

Consideration may include but not be limited to a. an instructional assignment that is appropriate to their experience. b. a mentoring program that shall be i. voluntary for both the mentor and the new teacher, and
BEGINNING TEACHERS. The parties agree to the centrally payment of the Teacher Council fee (currently $512.37) for those beginning teachers entering the profession who progress from their provisional to full certificate during the term of the collective agreement.
