TMDL definition

TMDL means the total maximum daily load limitation of a parameter, representing the estimated assimilative capacity for a water body before other designated uses are adversely affected. Mathematically, it is the sum of wasteload allocations for point sources, load allocations for non-point and natural background sources, and a margin of safety.
TMDL means Total Maximum Daily Load, an analysis of pollutant loading to a body of water detailing the sum of the individual waste load allocations for point sources and load allocations for non-point sources and natural background. See 40 CFR §130.2.

Examples of TMDL in a sentence

  • The TRE process shall be coordinated with TMDL development and implementation to avoid overlap.

  • Indicate if the impaired waterbody has a TMDL and list the pollutants with a TMDL (Category 4 waterbody).

  • By participating in the WPP BMP strategies a community could avoid the requirements that come with an approved TMDL i-Plan.This SWMP was developed with the intent to comply with the BMPs identified in both WPP’s which are appropriate to the suburban nature of the City.

  • As the habitat quality has declined, the tributaries’ ability to withstand other stresses has declined to the extent that most of the tributaries monitored by the OEPA for the TMDL study are not in attainment of the desired water use designations.

  • Six of the largest tributaries (in addition to Rocky Fork Creek, which will be covered in a separate Watershed Action Plan) of Lower Big Walnut Creek watershed were monitored by OEPA for the TMDL.

More Definitions of TMDL

TMDL means the total maximum daily load limitation of a parameter, representing the estimated assimilative capacity for a water body before other designated uses are adversely affected.
TMDL means Total Maximum Daily Load, which is the sum of the individual wasteload allocations for point sources and load allocations for nonpoint sources and natural background.
TMDL or “Total Maximum Daily Load” means the sum of the individual wasteload allocations (WLAs) for point sources and load allocations (LAs) for nonpoint sources and natural background. If a receiving water has only one point source discharger, the TMDL is the sum of that point source WLA plus the LAs for any nonpoint sources of pollution and natural background sources, tributaries, or adjacent segments. TMDLs can be expressed in terms of either mass per time, toxicity, or other appropriate measure.
TMDL means the amount of pollutants specified as a function of one or more water quality parameters that can be dis- charged into a water quality limited surface water segment and still ensure attainment of the applicable water quality standard.
TMDL or “total maximum daily load” means the calculations and plan for meeting water quality standards approved by the EPA and prepared pursuant to 33 U.S.C. § 1313(d) and federal regulations adopted under that law.
TMDL means the Rock River Total Maximum Daily Load study approved September 28, 2011 by United States Environmental Protection Agency.
TMDL means the Total Maximum Daily Load analysis to achieve water quality standards for dissolved oxygen in Long Island Sound as established by the Department and as approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency on April 3, 2001.
