It is understood that leaves under Article 21, Leaves of Absence, or under Article 17, Short-Term Disability Plan (STD), that are for the purpose of dealing with the death, illness, injury, or medical emergency of a person referred to in 21.04 or are for personal illness, injury, or medical emergency should be credited towards the emergency leave provisions of the Employment Standards Act, S.O. 2001.
Participation in medically approved rehabilitative or alternate duty employment is a requirement in order to maintain entitlement on the Short-Term Disability Plan.

The employee may apply for benefits under the Short-Term Disability Plan as described in Article 8 with respect to the day or days of leave taken under 12.2.2. All the terms of Article 8.1.9, Short-Term Disability Plan, shall apply to the period of leave as if such period was an illness of the employee.
An employee who returns to work after being on the Short-Term Disability Plan or the Long-Term Disability Plan and who is able to satisfactorily carry out the duties of the position which was held immediately prior to the commencement of the disability will be placed in the position the employee left or, if that is not possible, in one with the same job title, salary, Job Family and Phase.
