outcome indicator. 3: Drop-out rate of girls in supported schools that can be attributed to pregnancy and/or early marriage, based on a 2016/2017 baseline of 8.8%, to reach 1.7% by the end of the project. Performance against Outcome Indicator 1 has been strong to date, with the enrolment figures for the 2018/2019 period at 179,669 for males and 185,823 for females, against the 2018/2019 milestone of 173,214 for males and 173,178 for girls. Performance against Outcome Indicator 2 has decreased since the previous year, with the final data for 2018/2019 showing completion rates of 80% for males (compared to 85% the previous year), and 73% for females (compared to 82% the previous year). This fell short of the milestone for 2018/2019 of 90% for boys and 85% for girls. CAMFED suspects that the lower performance against this indicator is primarily due to the extremely challenging macroeconomic context experienced across the country including inflationary pressures and extreme financial hardship, which can unfortunately lead to more families turning to negative coping mechanisms and also limit girls’ aspirations for their futures (and those of their families). In the 2018/2019 Annual Review recommendations, CAMFED was encouraged to research more nuanced reasons for school drop-outs in CAMFED supported districts and share evidence through national sector dialogue to enhance and improve targeted activities. Over the past year we have therefore qualitatively analysed and scrutinised the various reasons and push and pull factors behind drop-out, and continue to share these and other programmatic findings and insights with the Education Coordination Group (ECG) and Education Coalition of Zimbabwe (ECOZI) platforms including the Gender and Disability Thematic group, among others. A review of the multi-dimensional and nuanced factors behind drop-out in Mudzi district has been included with this report (please see Appendix 3) as an example of the additional analysis and reflections in this regard over the past year. Regarding performance against Outcome Indicator 3, data will be available against the 2018/2019 milestone of 1.9% in March 2019. However, the target for the previous 2017/18 period was 8.3% and the final figure achieved was 2.1%, significantly exceeding the target. In line with the 2018/2019 Annual Review Recommendation for CAMFED to set up a more regular system of reporting and capturing drop-outs at district level (in collaboration with Ministry of Primary and Secondary Educa...
