According to Article 54.2 of the Law on Protection of the Environment, EIAs are subject to SEE, which means that the environmental authority (MENR) is responsible for the review and approval of EIA reports submitted by developers.
The MENR undertakes inspections of the implementation of activities in order to verify the accuracy and reliability of the developer’s monitoring data.
In response to the requirement under Article 26.1 of the PSA, SD specific Environmental Protection Standards (EPS) have been developed for production activities by a working group which included representatives from the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan Republic, experts from the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, SOCAR and MENR.
