Flat coating definition

Flat coating means a coating that is not defined under any other definition in this section and that registers gloss less than 15 on an 85-degree meter or less than 5 on a 60-degree meter.
Flat coating means a coating that is undefined under any other definition in 1.2 of this regulation and that registers gloss less than 15 on an 85-degree meter or less than 5 on a 60-degree meter according to ASTM Designation D 523-89 (1999), incorporated by reference in 1.6.5.3 of this regulation.
Flat coating means a coating that is not defined under any other definition in this rule and that registers gloss less than fifteen on an eighty-five-degree meter or less than five on a sixty-degree meter according to ASTM D523.

Examples of Flat coating in a sentence

  • For any coating that does not meet any of the definitions for the specialty coatings categories listed in Table 323.1-1, the VOC Content limit shall be determined by classifying the coating as a Flat coating, a Nonflat coating, or a Nonflat – High Gloss coating, based on its gloss, as determined by the method specified in Section G.5.b and the corresponding Flat, Nonflat, or Nonflat – High Gloss coating VOC limit shall apply.

  • The gloss of a coating shall be determined by ASTM Designation D 523-89 (1999), "Standard Test Method for Specular Gloss" [see "Flat coating"; "Non-flat coating"; "Non- flat-high gloss coating"; "Quick-dry enamel" inSection 1.2 of this regulation].

  • Currently, most Flat coating manufacturers use ester alcohols (e.g., Texanol®) as coalescing agents.

  • For any coating that does not meet any of the definitions for the specialty coatings categories listed in Table 1-1 of this regulation, the VOC content limit shall be determined by classifying the coating as a flat coating or a non-flat coating, based on its gloss, as defined in "Flat coating", "Non- flat coating", "Non-flat - high gloss coating" of Section 1.2 of this regulation and the corresponding flat or non-flat coating limit shall apply.

  • The gloss of a coating shall be determined by ASTM Designation D 523-89 (1999), "Standard Test Method for Specular Gloss" [see "Flat coating"; "Non-flat coating"; "Non-flat-high gloss coating"; "Quick-dry enamel" in 1.2 of this regulation].
