The samples used in the Mie-laser experiments consist of a suspension of dye-doped polystyrene microspheres in water from Duke Scientific Corporation (catalogue number G1000), with a specified mean diameter of 10.1 µm, and a specified size dispersion of 5% (standard deviation).
Since the dye is incorporated in the polymer matrix (the dye is mixed with the polymer during the production process of the spheres), leakage of the dye into the solution is excluded and the dye concentration according to Duke Scientific is homogeneous through- out the microsphere.
