Covered Servicemember definition

Covered Servicemember means: 1) a current member of the Armed Forces, including a member of the National Guard or Reserves, who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is otherwise on the temporary disability retired list, for a serious injury or illness; or 2) a veteran who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, for a serious injury or illness and who was a member of the Armed Forces, including a member of the National Guard or Reserves, at any time during the period of five years preceding the date on which the veteran undergoes that medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy. Covered Servicemember means a current member of the Armed Forces (including National Guard or Reserves), who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is otherwise on the temporary disability retired list for a serious injury or illness; or a covered veteran undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy for a serious injury or illness.

Examples of Covered Servicemember in a sentence

  • Military Caregiver Leave may be permitted more than once if necessary to care for a different Covered Servicemember (or the same Servicemember with multiple injuries or illnesses) up to a combined total of twenty-six (26) workweeks in a rolling twelve (12) month period.

  • If certified as medically necessary for the serious health condition of either you or your spouse, child or parent (Paragraphs 1 c and Id, above), or to care for a Covered Servicemember if you are a spouse, child, parent or next of kin to the Covered Servicemember (Paragraph 3, above), leave may be taken on an intermittent or reduced leave schedule.

Covered Servicemember means a member of the Armed Forces, including a member of the National Guard or Reserves, who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is on the temporary retired list, for a serious injury or illness. A member of the Armed Forces would have a serious injury or illness if he or she has incurred an injury or illness in the line of duty while on active duty in the Armed Forces provided that the injury or illness may render the servicemember medically unfit to perform duties of the member’s office, grade rank or rating.
Covered Servicemember means a member of the Armed Forces, including a member of the National Guard or Reserves, or a recent veteran who has been discharged, other than dishonorably, within the five years preceding the family member’s initial request for leave, who has a serious injury or illness who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is otherwise on the temporary disability retired list, for a serious injury or illness.
Covered Servicemember means (1) a member of the Armed Forces, including a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces, who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation or therapy; is otherwise in outpatient status; or is otherwise on the temporary disability retired list, for a serious injury or illness incurred or aggravated in the line of duty while on active duty that may render the individual medically unfit to perform his or her military duties; or (2) a person who, during the five years prior to the treatment necessitating the leave, served in the active military, Naval or Air Service, and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable (a "veteran" as defined by the Department of Veteran Affairs), and who has a qualifying injury or illness incurred or aggravated in the line of duty while on active duty that manifested itself before or after the member became a veteran. For purposes of determining the five-year period for covered veteran status, the period between October 28, 2009, and March 8, 2013, is excluded.
