Beam definition

Beam means the width of a watercraft at its widest part.
Beam means structural members ordinarily subject to bending stresses, usually horizontal and carrying vertical loads, and other than joists, girders or trusses. In floor framing, other than in flat slab construction, “beam” refers to the members which directly support the floor plank, deck, slab or arches where joists are not used.
