Axle definition

Axle means any 2 or more load-carrying wheels mounted in a single transverse vertical plane.
Axle means an assembly of a vehicle consisting of two or more wheels whose centers are in one horizontal plane, by means of which a portion of the weight of a vehicle and its load, if any, is continually transmitted to the roadway. For purposes of registration under the plan, an “axle” is any such assembly whether or not it is load-bearing only part of the time.
Axle means the axis of rotation of any of the wheels on which a vehicle is or may be driven, regardless of whether the wheel is power driven or freely rotating and regardless of the number of wheels rotating on that axis, and if 2 or more wheels have substantially the same axis of rotation, or intersecting axes of rotation, when the vehicle is being driven in a straight line those wheels are to be regarded as being on the same axle;

More Definitions of Axle

Axle in relation to a vehicle, means a device or set of devices, whether continuous across the width of the vehicle or not, about which the wheels of the vehicle rotate and which is so placed that, when the vehicle is travelling straight ahead, the vertical centre-lines of such wheels would be in one vertical plane at right angles to the longitudinal centre-line of such vehicle;

Axle means load-bearing wheels in a transverse line across the full width of a vehicle.
Axle means the common axis of rotation of two or more wheels whether power driven or freely rotating, and whether in one or more segments located in the same plane perpendicular to the longitudinal centre-line of the vehicle;
Axle means the axis of rotation of a row of tyres;
Axle means a part of a vehicle consisting of 1 or more shafts, spindles or bearings in the same transverse vertical plane by means of which, in conjunction with the wheels mounted on the shafts, spindles or bearings, the whole or part of the mass of the vehicle and its load may be carried;
