SFAS 123R replaces SFAS No. 123, “Accounting for Stock-Based Compensation,” and supersedes APB Opinion No. 25, “Accounting for Stock Issued to Employees.” SFAS No. 123, as originally issued in 1995, established as preferable a fair-value-based method of accounting for share-based payment transactions with employees.
In March 2000, the FASB issued Interpretation No. 44 (FIN 44), "Accounting for Certain Transactions Involving Stock Compensation--an Interpretation of APB Opinion No. 25." FIN 44 clarifies the application of APB Opinion No. 25 with respect to stock-related compensation.
