AI system definition

AI system means a system that is either software-based or embedded in hardware devices, and that displays behaviour simulating intelligence by, inter alia, collecting and processing data, analysing and interpreting its environment, and by taking action, with some degree of autonomy, to achieve specific goals;
AI system means a system that displays intelligent behaviour by analysing certain input and taking action, with some degree of autonomy, to achieve specific goals. AI- systems can be purely software-based, acting in the virtual world, or can be embedded in hardware devices;
AI system means an AI system as defined in [Article 3 (1) of the AI Act];

Examples of AI system in a sentence

  • It seems that the AI system often tries to optimize detection, recognition, and planning which often exceeds the available time bounds.

  • The risk management system put in place by the provider pursuant to [the AI Act] is a continuous iterative process run throughout the lifecycle of the high-risk AI system, whereby the provider ensures compliance with mandatory requirements meant to mitigate risks and can, therefore, be a useful element for the purpose of the assessment of this compliance.

  • A national court should apply the presumption where the claimant is in an excessively difficult position to prove causation, since it is required to explain how the AI system was led by the human act or omission that constitutes fault to produce the output or the failure to produce an output which gave rise to the damage.

  • National courts should be able, in the course of civil proceedings, to order the disclosure or preservation of relevant evidence related to the damage caused by high- risk AI systems from persons who are already under an obligation to document or record information pursuant to [the AI Act], be they providers, persons under the same obligations as providers, or users of an AI system, either as defendants or third parties to the claim.

  • For example, such difficulties could be assessed in light of the characteristics of certain AI systems, such as autonomy and opacity, which render the explanation of the inner functioning of the AI system very difficult in practice, negatively affecting the ability of the claimant to prove the causal link between the fault of the defendant and the AI output.

  • Such duties of care could for instance require users of AI systems to choose for certain tasks a particular AI system with concrete characteristics or to exclude certain segments of a population from being exposed to a particular AI system.

  • This allows to leverage the best outcome an AI system can deliver within a given time interval.

  • The two reasons are very related: the system is oftenconfused and cannot make a decision because the AI system has not delivered early enough, or never, before the incident.

  • Communicate information to stakeholders about the capabilities and limitations of your product or service, including transparency about the fact that stakeholders are dealing with an AI system.

  • This inherits the safety-first principles of re- cent architectures [5], [7], [9], [29], [39], [40], but importantly controls and monitors the time safety bounds across processes, including the AI system.
