Slash Disposal. Slash is defined as all debris resulting from logging operations, construction of roads, or other improvements. Upon completion of all provisions of this contract, STATE shall issue a release pursuant to ORS 477.580 relieving PURCHASER of the responsibility for the disposal of slash on the timber sale area. PURCHASER's responsibility shall be continuous until such a release is issued.

PURCHASER shall expend 36 hours of track-mounted excavator time on Areas I and II for the purpose of brush and slash piling as specified in Exhibit H and as directed by STATE. Slash piling shall commence within 14 days after completion of log yarding on all timber sale areas and continue until it is completed, unless otherwise directed in writing by STATE. All slash near openings and landings shall be piled no closer than 50 feet to any residual trees. Slash Disposal. Frontier will be responsible for disposal of slash as required by the Oregon Forest Practice Rules and Statutes except for burning. Pioneer will be responsible for burning.
Slash Disposal. Hand-piling and Burning: Cut tree stems less than 10 DBH, branches and tops, will be hand piled and burned on site by the contractor. Piles are not to be placed on old stumps or large diameter logs. Pile heights should not exceed 6 feet. Contractor will be responsible for obtaining a burning permit from the County of Missoula and will take all necessary precautions to ensure fires remain under control. Lop and Scatter: To reduce burning; trees measuring less than 6" DBH, branches and tree tops which do not harbor pine beetle larvae may be lopped and scattered on site. Branches from small diameter trees and tree tops must be removed from the stem. Scattered material must be cut less than 6 ft. in length. Accumulation of scattered pine at any location can result in accumulation of the ips engraver beetles on site. The following precautions will minimize the risk of ips beetle infestations on site. 1) Scattered material must be distributed across the site. 2) Contractor will not scatter slash across an area where chips have already been spread. 3) Scattered material will not cover more than 30% of ground at any site. 4) No material shall be scattered beneath the canopy of mature trees. Log portions harboring live pine bark beetles will be removed from site or burned before beetles hatch. Log portions which do not harbor live pine beetle, but must be cut for safety reasons, shall be manufactured into their natural length and left on site.
