MAURITIUS. On April 2, 1980, the Governments of the French Republic and Mauritius signed an agreement delimiting a maritime boundary between Reunion and Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. The agreement entered into force on this date. The full text of the treaty is as follows:
MAURITIUS. In 2017, a crow (Corvus splendens) eradication campaign was carried out island-wide. From an initial count of about 4,900 individuals, the crow population was successfully reduced by 83%. At the Rivulet Terre Rouge Estuary Bird Sanctuary (RTREBS), a Ramsar site of International Importance, crows have successfully been removed, as they caused much disturbance to migratory birds and waterbirds. Mudflat restoration is being carried out by removing invasive weeds.
MAURITIUS. On March 12, 1968 Mauritius became an inde- pendent state. In a note dated March 12, 1968 to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs made a statement reading in part as follows: ‘‘I have the honour to inform you that the Government of Mauritius, conscious of the de- sirability of maintaining existing legal relation- ships, and conscious of its obligation under international law to honour its treaty commit- ments, acknowledges that many treaty rights and obligations of the Government of the United Kingdom in respect of Mauritius were succeeded to by Mauritius upon independence by virtue of customary international law. ‘‘Since, however, it is likely that by virtue of customary international law certain treaties may have lapsed at the date of independence of Mauritius, it seems essential that each treaty should be subjected to legal examination. It is proposed after this examination has been com- pleted, to indicate which, if any, of the treaties which may have lapsed by customary inter- national law the Government of Mauritius wish to treat as having lapsed. ‘‘It is desired that it be presumed that each treaty has been legally succeeded to by Mauri- tius and that action be based upon this pre- sumption until a decision is reached that it should be regarded as having lapsed.
