License and Certification Fees. If the University requires an employee to obtain a license or certification after hire, or maintain a license or certification as a requirement of the employee’s position, the University will pay the cost of obtaining and/or maintaining that license or certification; provided that this section will not apply to costs associated with obtaining or maintaining non- commercial driver’s licenses. If the University agrees for a new Information Technology employee to obtain a license or certification as a condition of employment, the employee agrees to reimburse the direct cost of the license or certification in an amount of $3,000 or greater if they voluntarily resign from employment within eighteen (18) months of the date the license or certification is obtained.

Employees may request, and supervisors may authorize, payment of the costs of maintaining a license or certification identified as a preferred qualification for their position.

Training is necessary to acquire security/access badges for secured areas leased to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (PNNL) and/or the U.S. Department of Energy. PNNL is specifically included in the requirements of this section.

APPENDIX D – TIME CONVERSION FOR WORK HOURS The following table shall be used to convert specified time periods from days to hours. All other provisions of the applicable Articles contained in this MOU remain the same.

Management may schedule unit members for testing/course completion at an off-site location. Overtime shall be compensated in accordance with the provisions of Section 5.0 of this Memorandum of Understanding.

Examples of fees: application fee, certificate fee, permit fee, testing fee, physical exam fee. No fees related to penalties for untimely submission of the above stated items will be reimbursed by the District. Review classes/courses taken in preparation for license/certificate attainment and/or renewal are not eligible for reimbursement under this section. A Class C driver’s license is not eligible for reimbursement. Any employee who is assigned to drive equipment requiring Class A or Class B license shall obtain and maintain as a condition of employment the required license within ninety (90) days of being assigned to operate such equipment. Continued employment of employees who fail to obtain or maintain the appropriate license will be subject to the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The initial fee for the Class A or B license will be reimbursed by the District. Subsequent recertification or licensing fees will be paid by the District. The cost of the physical/medical exam will be paid by the District, provided, however, such exam is performed by a District designated physician.

The initial fee for the Class A or B license will be reimbursed by the City. Subsequent recertification or licensing fees will be paid by the City. The cost of the physical/medical exam will be paid by the City, provided, however, such exam is performed by a City designated physician. Any employee who of his or her own volition allows a license or certification to lapse, will relicense or recertify at the employee’s expense.
