Insertion. The SmartBall tool is typically inserted through a 4-inch or 6-inch gate valve into an active pipeline, as illustrated in Figure 4. In instances where a hot tap is required to provide access, Pure Technologies requires a six (6) inch tap. The gate valve for insertion is mounted on the top of the pipe, without any bends in the riser connecting the valve to the pipeline.
