DOUBLING. Where a musician is required to play more than one instrument, or is specifically requested to bring to a rehearsal or concert more than one instrument, an additional payment of 10% of the musician’s fee (with a minimum of £11.85 where a full concert fee is being paid, or £7.50 for a single schools or educational concert or a single extra rehearsal) shall be made in respect of each additional instrument. A musician shall not be required to play more than three instruments in any session. Doubling fees shall be calculated with reference to the musician's actual performing fee, plus overtime if applicable. Doubling fees are not payable on any other ancillary payment. If a musician is required to double on an instrument normally classified as a principal instrument, the doubling fee is payable in addition to the principal fee for the engagement. Keyboard and percussion instruments are regarded as divided into the following sub-groups, and doubling fees will not be payable for playing more than one instrument within the same sub-group:

DOUBLING. Where a musician is required to play more than one instrument, this must be by prior agreement, but as a guideline each additional instrument should raise the fee by £10. For example, a piccolo player doubling on flute would receive this payment. For percussion instruments in orchestras, each part as written is considered a separate instrument; therefore if a player is required to play more than one part (e.g. due to lack of available players or for budgetary reasons), a doubling fee is payable. In wind bands, a doubling fee would apply if a percussionist is required to combine more than one part. In any case, where a musician offered an engagement thinks a doubling fee should apply, the engager should discuss this directly with them in advance. Engagers should consider doubling when setting their budgets and prior to offering engagements, and should be willing to discuss the matter with the musician.
DOUBLING a) The following doubling is permitted without the payment of any additional fee:

DOUBLING. Any musician required to perform on more than one instrument shall be paid at a rate of fifty per cent (50%)above the basic scale for the first such additional instrument, twenty five percent (25%) of the basic scale for the second double, 15 percent (15%) of the basic scale for the third double and ten percent (10%) of basic scale for the fourth and all subsequent additional instruments. The Personnel Manager must be informed and, in consultation and agreement with the Artistic Director or his designate, the COC must approve of such doubling before the beginning of the first service in which such doubling would occur. Musicians will receive additional fees for the services in which the musician was asked or scheduled to provide such doubling. The following doublings are permitted without any additional payment: Any two (2) keyboard instruments including but not limited to piano, xxxxxxx, synthesizer (when the instruments are furnished by the COC) B flat, A and C clarinets (where the C clarinet is furnished by the COC) Alto and tenor saxophone Trumpet and cornet It is agreed that miscellaneous noise making by musicians (such as hand clapping, vocal ejaculations or bell playing) will not constitute doubling. Principal Percussionist will not be paid for the first double. Instruments which a percussionist may be required to play without additional payment are divided into four (4) sections as follows:
