Commander. If the grievance is not resolved in Step 1, the grievant may, within seven (7) calendar days following the Step 1 reply, refer the grievance to the appropriate Commander. If the Commander hears the grievance at Step 1, the grievance shall be referred to Step 3. The appropriate Commander shall have fourteen (14) calendar days in which to schedule a meeting, if he or she deems necessary, with the grievant and Lodge representative, if the grievant has requested Lodge representation. If the grievant desires to meet with the Commander, he or she shall so state in his grievance and the request shall be considered by the Commander. The Commander shall investigate and respond in writing to the grievant within fourteen (14) calendar days following the meeting date or fourteen (14) calendar days following receipt of the grievance, whichever is later.

Questioning of students on campus provides a 10 unique opportunity for a safe and confidential environment not found elsewhere. In 11 cases where students are questioned by members of the Sheriff’s Department, the 12 goal of department personnel will be to efficiently conduct their investigation and 13 minimize the impact of such investigation on the school community. It is expected 14 school administrators and staff will follow specific instructions given by law 15 enforcement when attempting to protect the student and/or the integrity of the 16 investigation, e.g., do not call the parents because a family member is a suspect. 17 The school site principal shall be notified as soon as practical of any significant 18 enforcement events. SROs should coordinate activities so actions between entities are 19 cooperative and in the best interests of the school and public safety. 20 The SRO shall provide information to the appropriate investigative division of any 21 crime or lead that comes to the attention of the SRO. The SRO should be kept 22 advised of all investigations involving students from his/her assigned school.
