Defence Reserve Leave counts as service for all purposes, except for unpaid leave to undertake CFTS. Unpaid leave for the purpose of CFTS counts for all purposes except Annual Leave. An eligible employee may also apply for Annual Leave, Long Service Leave, leave without pay, or they may use ADOs or flextime (where available) to make up time for the purpose of fulfilling ADF Reserve, CFTS or Cadet Force obligations. Conditions An eligible employee must give notice to the head of service as soon as practicable of their absence or intention to be absent for Defence Reserve Leave, including documentary evidence. Employees are to notify supervisors at the earliest opportunity once the dates for ADF reserve, CFTS or Cadet Force activities are known and/or changed. Community service volunteer leave An employee who engages in an eligible community service activity is entitled to be absent from his or her employment for a period if: the period consists of one or more of the following: time when the employee engages in the activity; reasonable travelling time associated with the activity; reasonable rest time immediately following the activity; and unless the activity is jury service – the employee’s absence is reasonable in all the circumstances.
