Adjunct Faculty. 5.1 "Adjunct faculty" shall be used in this Agreement to mean temporary faculty as defined in California Education Code Section 87482.5. This definition shall also apply to tenured/tenure-track faculty who hold overload or other assignments outside of their regular contract assignment. Unless specifically stated to the contrary, the term “faculty” in Article V of this Agreement shall pertain to adjunct faculty. Temporary assignments of adjunct faculty will be made by management (within the limitations of the procedures set forth below) and shall be compensated as outlined in Article VIII. Except as delineated in this Agreement, adjunct faculty have no rights other than those provided in the California Education Code. The parties agree that all part-time faculty assignments are temporary in nature contingent on enrollment, funding, and program changes, and that no part-time faculty member has a reasonable assurance of continued employment at any point in time, regardless of the status, the length of service, or re-employment preference seniority, of the part-time faculty member. The District reserves the right of assignment.
Adjunct Faculty. Adjunct faculty members are hired to fill needs in the curriculum or in the library on a limited-term basis. A person holding such a contract cannot expect that success in meeting the terms of an adjunct contract will lead to the offer of another adjunct position. Adjunct faculty members may be offered either part-time or full-time contracts, and may be eligible for multi-year contracts as described in Article 10.
Adjunct Faculty. 5.3.1.1 No class shall be closed while a faculty member is using sick leave as defined under Article 11.2 (Sick Leave). Upon return from sick leave instructors will be employed with pay a maximum of two (2) weeks or up to five (5) class sessions, whichever is less, during which time appropriate class size must be established in order for the assignment to be continued.
Adjunct Faculty. The College acknowledges that a reasonable effort shall be made to assign adjunct faculty who are fully qualified by virtue of their academic credentials, training, classroom evaluations, recent experience, current discipline-related technology, pedagogical techniques in the classroom and date of hire as defined in Article 4.10. First, the College will make a reasonable effort to assign adjunct faculty covered by this Agreement at least three (3) credit hours of contingent assignments that will most likely run during each fall and spring semester of an academic year before providing a contingent assignment to non-unit adjunct faculty. Second, the College will make a reasonable effort to assign Level II adjunct faculty covered by this Agreement, who indicate availability, a minimum of nine (9) contact hours of contingent assignments that will most likely run during each fall and spring semester of an academic year before providing a contingent assignment to non-unit adjunct faculty. Third, the College will make a reasonable effort to offer adjunct faculty, covered by this Agreement, who are considered to be excellent faculty and who indicate availability for more than three (3) contact hours at least six (6) contact hours within the remaining staffing needs of the College. At the sole discretion of the xxxx, an adjunct faculty member may be deemed “not excellent”. In such cases, the xxxx must provide in writing to the adjunct faculty member the reason for “not excellent” status along with recommendations for improvement to the adjunct faculty member nine (9) weeks prior to the start of the next academic semester. The College will put forth a reasonable effort to notify an adjunct faculty member of their contingent work assignment for the next regular semester six (6) weeks before the start of that semester. To demonstrate a reasonable effort, the College will contact adjunct faculty via phone and/or the College email system.

Adjunct Faculty. The District shall provide to each eligible faculty member a choice, including at least one (1) Health Maintenance Organization Plan option, of comprehensive group medical plan options during open enrollment periods. The open enrollment period for enrollment or changes in group insurance will be held once annually as announced by the District Benefits Office.
