Requesting Time Off. Employees are permitted to request time off or alter hours of work for personal reasons. Requests are to be in writing and employees are to exercise best efforts to provide such a request seventy-two (72) hours in advance of the scheduled shift. Requests for time off are to be approved subject to business needs and are not to be unreasonably denied.

Requesting Time Off. Employees desiring to be absent from duty on any day or days other than regular assigned non-working days, must notify the Company in writing, not later than seven (7) days prior to the date requested. The Company will approve or deny the above, in writing, within ten (10) days of request submission. This provision will not be applicable when employees are unable to give notice of intended absence due to illness. In the event an employee needs time off and is unable to notify the Company seven (7) days in advance as outlined above, the Company will make every possible effort to grant the employee’s request whenever possible.

If approval is given for the request and that employee should later be ordered into work, the employee will be paid at one and one half his rate of pay for all hours worked. The time requested and then not taken off will not be deducted from the employee.
Requesting Time Off. 4.1 The senior manager for the respective work area will receive and manage all requests for time off for trade union duties and activities from union stewards employed in their area of responsibility. For A&E, this will be the respective Senior Operations Manager; for PTS, the PTS Operations Managers; for EDC, the Senior Distributions Managers; and for other work areas, the relevant Head of Department. Requesting Time Off. Following the UNISON AGM (normally held in February each year), the Branch Secretary will inform the Director of HR in writing of the names of those elected to each position and confirm who will be attending UNISON conferences in the coming year. UNISON will also notify HR of any subsequent changes made to the list of representatives during the course of the year. Procedure for requesting time off for trade union duties The Open University does not expect UNISON to request time off formally through Human Resources for representatives to carry out their trade union duties (section 3) (except for ‘additional approved meetings’). However, there is a requirement that representatives request and agree time off in advance with their line manager. Agreement to time off will not unreasonably be withheld, but the operational needs of the Unit will be taken into account when considering requests. This should include the timing and duration of time off requested (including travel time where applicable), the purpose, and the intended location. In addition, requests for time off for training should include details of the content of the training. HR will consider the circumstances of the request and, if supported, consult with the relevant Unit to determine if the time off can be agreed. At the same time, each request for time off should be made by individual UNISON representatives and members to their line managers indicating the reason for which the time is requested. Requests for time off should be made with as much notice as is reasonable in the circumstances - in general, four weeks notice should be given. Agreement to time off will not unreasonably be withheld, but the operational needs of the Unit will be taken into account. Requesting Time Off. (a) All Employee time-off requests shall be made in the Employer’s electronic scheduling system (i.e., Dayforce), including on time clocks provided by the Employer at each location.
