Such leave will be granted on the understanding the employee shall relinquish their position with the Employer, permitting it to be posted permanently as staffing requirements dictate. Upon making him/herself available for reinstatement upon expiry of their term of office, provided the employee has all of the qualifications, knowledge, education, abilities, experience and personal suitability as determined by the Employer to perform the full scope of the work required, the employee shall be permitted first to exercise their seniority in any vacancy that exists, or, if no vacancies exist, to exercise their seniority over the most junior employee in the job they previously worked in. In exercising seniority, the returning employee may displace only another employee working the same (or fewer) hours as the returning employee was working at the time leave was granted.

  • Public Office Leave (a) An Employer shall grant a leave of absence without pay upon the request of any Nurse to run as a candidate in a Federal, Provincial, or Municipal election. If the Nurse withdraws as a candidate or is an unsuccessful candidate, she/he is entitled to return to her or his former position without loss of benefits provided that the Nurse gives two (2) weeks notice to the Employer of her/his intent to return unless mutually agreed to a shorter notice period.

  • Unpaid Leave 6. Accrued compensatory time off may be used at the employee’s discretion, with management approval, after exhaustion of 100% sick leave (No. 3 above). However, FLSA compensatory time off shall not be counted against the employee’s four (4) month (nine [9] pay period [720 hours]) family or medical leave entitlement.   • Unpaid Leave - Union Business (a) Short-term leave of absence without pay to a maximum of fourteen (14) days at one time shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. The Union shall give reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the department and the Union shall make every effort to give a minimum of seven (7) days' notice.
