Tips for Parents Sample Clauses

Tips for Parents. Parents don’t always agree with each other, but try to avoid conflict in front of your child. Reach an agreement ahead of time and present a united front to your child. Depending on your child’s age, use a simplified contract for now and expand it in the future. Create the contract to include age appropriate responsibilifies, approved usages and limits. Revisit the contract annually as the child gets older. Be open to your child’s comments about how friends use devices. Ulfimately, you make the rules for your family, but familiarity with other families’ boundaries will help make sure your rules are reasonable. Discussion Guide Topics for Considerafion Usage: What devices will be permited? How and for what purposes can children use devices? What informafion can they access on devices? Where may devices be used? For example: bedroom, dining table, school, etc. Think about where and why using devices in certain areas is important or inappropriate. Are there fimes when it is very important for the children to use devices? At what fimes do parents think devices should be off-limits? Bedfime? Family meal fimes? Will limits be different on weekdays, weekends, and school vacafions? Is there a daily amount of screen fime? Do you plan to discuss how dependencies on digital devices can be unhealthy (digital addicfion)? And how that changes the way we interact with others? Or how it can impact one’s mental health? Will children listen to music, play games, watch movies, etc. on devices? Do parents want to restrict any acfivifies? For permited acfivifies, how will parents and children decide what content is appropriate? Age-based guidelines or some other criteria? Which apps are allowed to be downloaded? Do children need to get permission from parents? Does your household model respecVul communicafion when using virtual assistants like Xxxx and Xxxxx? Do parents plan to use technology tools to monitor device acfivity? Do the children have to share all passwords and accounts with parents? How and when will you respond to contacts (call, text, email) from each other, another family member, or other authority hgures? May children share devices with others? If yes, is the child responsible for devices and content if someone else uses them? Discussion Guide Topics for Considerafion

Tips for Parents. Please note that the information that follows is particular for remote/online learning. The normal requirements apply in relation to student attendance at classes. Please read through the student protocols with your child, to ensure they understand the remote/online learning and video conferencing expectations. Please ensure that the children in your care are using their device in a suitable "public" area of your home. For obvious reasons, as already stated, a bedroom is not appropriate for any video conferencing that may be scheduled from time to time. When video conferencing, students are to be attired in appropriate casual clothing, and the College recommends they wear the College Sport polo shirt. It is advised you have internet filtering, parent controls and privacy settings in place. There are challenges associated with remote/online learning and these things should be taken into consideration: • Students’ ability to learn and work independently • Greater need for self-motivation • Resistance to distraction, including from older/younger siblings and home environment • Contact with peers during remote/online learning at home can also distract from productive activity; conversation is not always collaboration • The amount and regularity of parent/caregiver and teacher support will be limited • Contact with teachers via Google, gmail, etc.. chat/ forum and video conferencing will be different to face-to-face, class discussion • Remote/Online learning may take longer for some students to complete • Organisation of digital folders for creating, saving, filing, storage and retrieval of work is often a struggle for some • Make a regular time to check-in on your child’s remote/online learning. Teachers will be communicating the day/week learning to students and parents/caregivers via Google Classroom. Seesaw and gmail • Lesson content is to be used for educational purposes only, and the College policies regarding behaviour and use of digital devices etc will apply to all video conferencing lessons
Tips for Parents. You don’t need good computer skills to help your child learn to use their iPad. Your interest and encouragement are more important than computer literacy. • Encourage your child to keep their iPad in a protective case. Don’t put heavy books on top of the iPad when it is in the school bag or on a desk. • Remind your child to recharge their iPad overnight to ensure it is ready for each school day. • Supervise use at home by ensuring iPads are used in family areas and not in bedrooms. • Consider setting screen time limits to avoid overuse. Please feel free to talk to the school if any issues arise. Care The following conditions must be adhered to in order to maintain warranty of the iPad: ● Always store the iPad in a protective case ● Avoid storing it in student’s backpack without protective case – pressure from books can damage the screen ● Do not store anything additional to the iPad within the protective case (e.g. Cords or stylus) as this may damage the screen ● Carry the iPad within a protective case inside the student’s normal school bag. Do not overfill the school bag. (Pressure on the iPad can cause permanent damage to the screen and other components) ● Do not grab or squeeze the iPad. (This can also damage the screen and other components) ● Never leave the iPad in a car or in an exposed area where it can be stolen. ● Never leave your iPad in unsupervised areas during the school day. They are to be securely locked in a classroom during recess and lunch times. ● iPads will not be taken outside at recess or lunchtime. Internet Usage Use of iPads by students is governed by the Acceptable Use Policy that students and parents agree to for the use of ICT within the school. Parents are able to familiarise themselves with the Acceptable Use Policy to further support student compliance outside of the school environment. Any inappropriate use of the internet is unacceptable and is subject to disciplinary action and exclusion from the school networks and resources. The Acceptable Use Policy contains specific responsibilities to ensure student safety: ● Students must keep all passwords secret and safe. They must ensure their own safety and integrity by not handing out their passwords to anybody (except parents and teachers). ● They must not provide full names, telephone numbers, addresses, images or passwords to websites they’ve signed up for. ● Students should be respectful when they talk to and work with others in an online environment and not participate in Cy...
