Common use of Long Term Union Leave Clause in Contracts

Long Term Union Leave. An employee may apply to the Employer for a long-term leave of absence without pay but without loss of seniority if they are elected or appointed to a full-time position with the Local or the National Union. Such leave shall be for a period of three (3) years and may be renewed for a further period as may be agreed between the parties. During such leave the Union shall be responsible for providing WSIB coverage. The Employer will post the vacancy arising as a result of the granting of this leave as a temporary vacancy, which will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the job posting article.
