Librarians and Archivists. This involves the creation of new knowledge, the creative use of existing knowledge, or the organization and synthesis of existing knowledge in the field of librarianship, archival studies, or another academic discipline related to their work. It may also involve active participation on editorial boards, and as referees or on committees and juries for the evaluation of scholarly work and creative arts. Librarians and Archivists shall be encouraged and are normally expected to devote 10% of their time to meaningful research, scholarly or other creative activities related to librarianship, archival studies, or another discipline related to their work. Appropriate dissemination of research findings is expected and encouraged. The Parties recognize that the nature of scholarly activities may vary from Librarian to Librarian (or from Archivist to Archivist) and from time to time according to program assignments. As a consequence, the time devoted to scholarly activity may also vary.

Librarians and Archivists. 11.02 A librarian and archivist’s professional obligations and responsibilities to the University shall encompass: (a) the development of their professional knowledge and performance in the areas of public service/collections development/bibliographic control; (b) [i] professional development, [ii] research, scholarship; and (c) service to the University. While the pattern of these duties may vary from individual to individual consistent with the librarian and archivist’s specialties and qualifications, they constitute the librarian and archivist’s principal obligation during the employment year.
Librarians and Archivists have the responsibility to deal fairly and ethically with students, faculty, and other members of the academic community, to avoid discrimination, to xxxxxx a free exchange of ideas and to refuse to practice or permit censorship, to respect the principles of confidentiality in a manner consistent with their role, to seek the highest possible standards of professional knowledge and performance, to acknowledge their indebtedness to students and/or colleagues in relation to their own research (if any), to uphold and to protect the principles of academic freedom, and to strive to ensure the fullest possible access to library materials.
Librarians and Archivists shall not be eligible to serve on the Library Assessment Committee during an academic year in which they are on leave.

For the purposes of this article, outside professional activities are defined as activities that are related to the Employee’s field of academic or professional expertise. Such outside activities can contribute to the professional development of Instructors, Nurse Clinicians, Librarians and Archivists and to the exercise of their University responsibilities. In recognition that outside professional activities offer valuable opportunities to enrich teaching and research, and to share the knowledge, skills and other resources of the institution with the community at large, the University encourages the involvement of Employees in outside professional activities.

Tenured Instructors, librarians and Archivists shall be eligible for sabbatical leave in accordance with the provisions of this Article. Such leaves are intended to be used by tenured Instructors, librarians and Archivists for academic and professional renewal and enhancement through study, scholarship, writing or other activities, leading to increase of their knowledge, furtherance of their scholarship, and other enhancement of their ability to contribute to the University on their return. 31B.02 Tenured Instructors, librarians and Archivists shall be eligible, upon application to the University of New Brunswick, for consideration for sabbatical leave as follows:

  • Librarians The normal work week for librarians is 35 hours per week. The maximum for reference desk coverage is 20 hours per week. Individual faculty members may elect to exceed this maximum. Where librarians are involved in instructional modes listed in Article 12.03, these shall be pro-rated. For part-time regular and non-regular type 2 librarians, part of their assignment shall be scheduled as non reference desk duties as agreed upon by the librarian and the administrator responsible. Scheduling work shall follow past practices and shall be delivered in cooperation with the administrator responsible.

Information provided in the progress updates helps NIH evaluate program activities and may be considered by the NIH GDS governance committees as part of NIH’s effort to provide ongoing stewardship of data sharing activities subject to the NIH GDS Policy.
