Intermittent and Reduced Leave. Intermittent leave is leave taken in separate blocks of time due to a single illness or injury. Reduced leave is a leave scheduled that reduces the employee’s usual number of hours per workweek or hours per workday. Intermittent or reduced leave is available only for the employee’s own serious health condition or to care for a seriously ill spouse, child or parent. Such leave may not be used for the birth or adoption/placement of a child. The employee who wishes to use intermittent or reduced leave must have the prior approval of the Board/designee. Although the Board/designee and employee may agree to an intermittent or reduced leave plan, the employee who uses family leave is not automatically entitled to use such leave on an intermittent or reduced leave schedule. The Board may provide such leave for medical purposes, but the Superintendent may transfer the employee to a position which is equivalent, but more suitable for intermittent periods of leave. The employee must furnish the Board with the expected dates of the planned medical treatment and the duration of the treatment. The Superintendent must authorize such leave in writing.

Intermittent leave or leave on a reduced schedule may be taken whenever medically necessary to care for a seriously ill family member or because of the employee’s own serious health condition.

Although the Board and teacher may agree to an intermittent or reduced leave, the teacher who uses family leave is not automatically entitled to use such leave on an intermittent basis or on a reduced leave schedule. Because of potential disruption to the academic process, all requests for intermittent and reduced leave will be carefully scrutinized for their impact on the operations of the classroom/school. The Board may provide such leave for medical leave, but the Board may require the teacher to take leave in a block for the entire period during which the leave would extend or the Board may transfer the teacher to a position which is equivalent, but more suitable for intermittent periods of leave. The teacher must furnish the Board with the expected dates of the planned medical treatment and the duration of the treatment. The Superintendent or designee must authorize such leave in writing or offer the teacher an equivalent alternative job for intermittent or reduced leaves or require the teacher to take leave in a block period so as not to disrupt the Board’s operations.

  • Continuous, Intermittent, and Reduced Work Schedule Leave All leave granted under this Article shall normally be for a continuous period of time for each incident. An employee shall be permitted to take intermittent leave or work on a reduced schedule to take care of a family member with a serious health condition or for his/her own serious health condition when it is medically necessary. Management may require the employee to transfer temporarily to an available alternative position with equivalent compensation for which the employee is qualified that accommodates recurring periods of leave better than the employee’s regular position. Employees who elect a part-time schedule shall receive prorated compensated time off benefits in accordance with Section 4.110 of the Los Angeles Administrative Code during the duration of their part-time schedule. In accordance with the California Family Rights Act (CFRA), leave for the birth, adoption or xxxxxx care placement of a child of an employee (“bonding” leave) does not have to be taken in one continuous period of time. Under CFRA, the basic minimum duration of bonding leave is two weeks, and on any two occasions an employee is entitled to such bonding leave for a time period of not less than one day but less than two weeks’ duration. Any other form of intermittent leave, or work on a reduced schedule, for the purpose of bonding leave shall only be permitted at the discretion of Management. Bonding leave must be concluded within one year of the birth or placement of the child.

  • Intermittent Leave If medically necessary due to the serious medical condition of the employee, or that of the employee's spouse, child, parent, registered domestic partner within the meaning of Minneapolis Code of Ordinances Chapter 142, or other dependents and/or members of their households who have a serious medical condition, leave may be taken on an intermittent schedule. In cases of the birth, adoption or xxxxxx placement of a child, family and medical leave may be taken intermittently only when expressly approved by the Employer.

  • Intermittent Employees On the first day of the monthly pay period following completion of each period of 160 hours or 20 days of paid employment, each intermittent employee in the State civil service shall be allowed one (1) day of credit for sick leave with pay. The hours or days worked in excess of 160 hours or 20 days in a monthly pay period shall not be counted or accumulated.

  • LEAVES OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT PAY 21.01 The Employer may grant leaves of absence without pay, for a time mutually agreed upon between the Employer and the employee, for the following reasons:

  • Recoupment of Wage and Benefit Overpayments (a) In the event that an employee receives wages or benefits from the Agency to which the employee is not entitled, regardless of whether the employee knew or should have known of the overpayment, the Agency shall notify the employee in writing of the overpayment which will include information supporting that an overpayment exists and the amount of wages and/or benefits to be repaid.

  • Training Leave An employee appointed or elected as an accredited representative of the union shall, upon application in writing to the employer, be granted up to 5 days leave with pay each calendar year (non-cumulative) to attend appropriate courses: • Such courses shall be designed and structured with the objective of promoting good industrial relations within the building and construction industry. • Consultation may take place between the parties in the furtherance of this objective Accredited representative of the union shall mean a job xxxxxxx recognised by the employer. The following shall apply: Employees covered by Agreement Max. No. of employees to attend per year Xxx. No. of days per year Up to l5 1 5 31-50 3 15 51-100 4 20 101 and over 5 25 The application for leave shall be given to the employer at least 6 weeks in advance of the commencement of the course. The application shall contain the following details: • The name of the employee seeking leave • The period of time for which the leave is sought (including dates and daily commencing and finishing times) and • The title, general description and structure of the course to be attended and the location of where the course is to be conducted. The employer shall advise the union within seven clear working days (Monday to Friday) of receiving the application as to whether or not the application for leave has been approved. The time of taking leave shall be arranged so as to minimise any adverse effect on the employer’s operations. The onus shall rest with the employer to demonstrate an inability to grant leave when an eligible employee is otherwise entitled. An employer shall not be liable for any additional expenses associated with an employee’s attendance at a course, other than the payment of ordinary time earnings for such absence. For the purposes of this clause ordinary time earnings shall be defined as the relevant award classification rate, shift work loadings plus over-award payments. Leave rights granted in accordance with this clause will not result in additional payment for alternative time off to the extent that the course coincides with an employee’s day off in the 19 day month work cycle. An employee on request by their employer shall provide proof of their attendance at any course within 7 days. If an employee fails to provide such proof the employer may deduct any amount already paid for attendance from the week’s pay or any monies due to the employee. Where an employee is sick during a period when leave under this provision has been granted proof of attendance at the course is not required for that period and the employee shall receive payment in accordance with personal leave provisions. Leave of absence granted in accordance with this clause shall count for all purposes of employment.

  • Extended Maternity Leave a. Teachers granted leave under the above mentioned paragraphs, who choose not to return to work at the expiration of that leave may apply for extended maternity leave, four (4) weeks prior to the start of a semester or term or by May 31st in respect to leave expiring on June 30th.

  • Extended Leave of Absence Professional employees who have attained renewable contract status may request extended leaves of absence for one (1) year without pay under any one of the circumstances listed in this section. All requests for such extended leave of absence will be applied for and granted or rejected in writing. Such application will be reviewed by the principal and superintendent. If the latter approves, he/she will recommend that the leave be granted by the Board. An employee returning from an extended leave will be assigned to the same position as that which he/she held before assuming the leave, providing that position still exists. By mutual agreement between the employer and the employees, he/she may be given a different assignment. Extended leaves of absence may be requested under, but not limited to, the following:

  • General Leave of Absence a) Leave of absence without pay may be granted to employees for valid reasons as set out by Company policy.

  • Funeral and Bereavement Leave 19.01 In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee, the employee will be granted leave of absence with pay, with consideration given to travel time for attending the funeral. The length of absence shall be up to three (3) days at the discretion of the Employer. The term ‘immediate family’ shall mean: spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, step-mother, step-father, step-son, step-daughter, step-brother, step-sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, and grandchildren, or any relative living in the household of the employee. In the event of the demise of an aunt or uncle, nephew or niece, an employee will be granted one (1) day leave of absence with pay to attend the funeral. In the case of death of spouse, father, mother, child, step-parent or step-child, the employee shall be entitled to, up to one (1) weeks leave of absence with pay.
