Group Medical and Dental Insurance for Employees. Hired August 15, 2010 and Earlier. The City contracts with the California Public EmployeesRetirement System’s Public Employees’ Medical and Hospital Care Act (PEMHCA) for medical insurance for City employees. The payment of premiums towards group medical/dental/life insurance will be through the administration of a cafeteria plan. The City shall pay the CalPERS statutory minimum employer contribution specified in Section 22892 of the Public Employees’ Medical and Hospital Care Act. In addition to the CalPERS statutory minimum employer contribution, the City shall make contributions to a flexible benefits plan as noted herein.

An Individually Represented Battalion Chief who elects not to be covered under the medical plan provided through the cafeteria plan shall receive the equivalent of the CalPERS statutory minimum as cash wages. However, the employee will be required to pay for dental and life insurance premiums, both of which are mandatory, out of the waiver of premium contribution (CalPERS statutory minimum).

  • HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE The Sheriff will continue to offer to employees of this bargaining unit the same health and life insurance programs being offered to other Sheriff’s Office employees. Due to the changing nature of the health insurance market, the Sheriff retains the right during the term of this Agreement to develop plan changes or to change carriers in order to reduce costs or for other reasons. Changes to the level and types of benefits shall be subject to bargaining as provided by law. Rates paid by the employee will be established by the Sheriff.
