Association business means time spent in Meet and Confer negotiations; administering the terms of this AGREEMENT, including the adjusting of grievances and participating in a dispute resolution process; representing members in a disciplinary process (to the extent allowed by this AGREEMENT); and attending the annual State CLEAT conference and Executive Board meetings, the ASSOCIATION’S Executive Board meetings, regular ASSOCIATION business meetings and ASSOCIATION seminars and workshops (subject to the provisions of Section 4 below).
Association business means Association Executive Board meetings, conventions, seminars or other Association events, all of which must be related to employer-employee relations and involving matters solely pertaining to the bargaining unit covered by the Memorandum of Understanding. The total number of hours of Association paid leave will be 100 hours per fiscal year during the term of this Memorandum and be available for use as a pool of hours, all to be used by Association representatives. Additional release hours beyond the annual pool of paid Association leave hours may be granted by the County for Association business on an unpaid leave basis or by the employee representative requesting use of accrued vacation and/or compensatory time off. The County shall not unreasonably deny a request for paid Association business unless the County determines the number of Association representatives requesting time off for Association business would create an undue hardship on operational effectiveness, including excessive overtime costs to replace the absent Association representative(s). All requests for leave under this section shall be made in writing on a form as agreed to by the parties. The Association shall defend, indemnify, hold harmless, release and save the County, its agents and employees, from and against any and all claims, demands, suits, orders, judgments, expenses or other forms of liability arising out of or in connection with this Article and/or any action taken or not taken by the County and/or the Association under this Article, including, but not limited to, Association members taking paid release time to attend to Association business. This indemnification clause shall be in addition to any other remedy available to the County under this contract or provision of the law.

Effective the first full pay period following Board of Supervisors’ adoption of the 2016-2018 MOU, the County will add two hundred (200) hours of Union Release Time into the bank.
Examples of Association business in a sentence
If the Association Business leave is for two months or more, the employee, upon written request, will be paid for some or all of the Bargaining Unit Member’s accrued vacation time at the time the leave commences.
An employee granted an Association Business leave of absence shall retain all accumulated sick time, vacation time and personal time accrued as of the date the leave begins.
A grievance, as defined in Section 7.1, relating to 31 occurrences actually involving at least three (3) nurses or arising under the 32 Association Business article, may be initiated by the Association at Step 2 of 33 the above-mentioned procedure by the filing of a written grievance, signed by a 34 representative of the Association, within twenty-one (21) days from the date of 1 occurrence.

Association business means attendance at conventions, seminars, official Association general membership meetings, and official Association Board meetings, all of which must be related to employer-employee relations and involving matters solely pertaining to the bargaining unit covered by this Memorandum of Understanding. All requests for leave under this section shall be made in writing on a form prescribed by the Chief of Police. Additional requests for union business leave may be granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police or his/her designee.
