Least restrictive alternative means that the guardian or conservator must choose alternatives that are the least likely to interrupt, bother, or interfere with the desires, lifestyle, or preferences of the ward or protected person, and are the most likely alternatives other people in the community would choose if they didn’t need a substitute decision-maker, given the level of supervision and protection required for the ward or protected person.
Least restrictive alternative - A mechanism, course of action, or environment that allows the ward to live, learn, and work in a setting that places as few limits as possible on the ward’s rights and personal freedoms as appropriate to meet the needs of the ward.
