Sixth Year. The sixth year shall constitute a planned and approved (by the Superintendent) program at an accredited college or university resulting in the award of a Sixth Year Certificate or a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS), or a second master's degree.

Sixth Year. A sixth-year, for reasons of advancement in salary, shall be defined as follows:
Sixth Year. The City will pay for coverage on behalf of the retired employee (up to age 65) at the rate of 50% of the cost of the premium in the year following the designated 5- year period described above. Premiums will be paid at 50% of what is being paid for family coverage at the time of the 6th year. Retirees may add dependents as a result of a qualifying event or during open enrollment periods if the dependents are considered qualified beneficiaries under COBRA rules.
Sixth Year. A certificate of advanced graduate study or a sixth year professional diploma earned at an accredited college or university. Alternatively, teachers shall be placed on the sixth year salary schedule if they have completed thirty (30) hours of coursework beyond the master's degree in a planned program approved by the Superintendent of Schools.
Sixth Year a second master's degree in a discipline other than the discipline in which the initial master's degree was attained, or, the completion of thirty (30) credits prior to the master's or subsequent to the master's in a planned program of study. (The master's degree plus thirty (30) credits in total are required.) Effective with courses started after August 31, 2006, any course(s) credited toward the attainment of the sixth year salary level must be taken at the graduate school level. Subject to the prior approval of the courses by the Superintendent, any teacher who has received his/her master's degree may then be eligible for sixth-year status if he/she completes thirty (30) additional credit hours in his/her area of teaching assignment. These courses do not have to be part of a planned program but must be taken at an accredited college or university, unless a specific alternative is approved by the Superintendent. Doctorate -- a doctor's degree earned at an accredited college or university.

In the Superintendent’s discretion, an employee who holds two thirty (30) credit hour Master’s Degrees in education or a field related to the teacher’s assignment may also be placed on the Sixth Year Certificate step.

Sixth Year. (1) A possessor of a Sixth Year Certificate of advanced graduate specialty or a second Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. The approval of the program by the Superintendent of Schools must be obtained in writing prior to matriculation into a second Master's Degree program. This decision shall be rendered within thirty (30) days of the written request. To qualify for advancement to the Sixth Year level of the salary schedule, the second Master’s Degree or Sixth Year Certificate must be earned in an educationally related field. A teacher who earns a Sixth Year Certificate which does not qualify for advancement to the Sixth Year level of the salary schedule shall receive an annual stipend of three hundred dollars ($300).
Sixth Year. 35:4.1 Before a Sixth-Year program is begun, approval must be sought from the Superintendent or the Director of Human Resources. If approval is not granted, a member may appeal that decision to a committee composed of the Superintendent or Director of Human Resources, a Principal, and one member of the Federation. The thirty (30) semester hour program must be approved by the Superintendent or Director of Human Resources or the Committee before the differential is granted to any applicant. The Principal is to be selected by the administration. The Superintendent, Director of Human Resources or the Committee should be informed of the general progress of the candidate and must be informed of any changes in the program. Bargaining unit members who have started a program prior to July 1, 2012 must meet with the Director of Human Resources as soon as practicable for the purposes of updating him with regard to their progress. In cases when courses may already have been completed beyond the Master's Degree, final approval for such credit rests with the committee. Credit for a course will be granted only once regardless of the fact that the course is repeated in another institution with a different instructor.
Sixth Year. A teacher holding a second master’s degree in a discipline other than the discipline in which the initial master’s was obtained, or a Sixth Year Certificate, or a doctorate from an accredited college or university.
