Work Breaks definition

Work Breaks. As activity within the department allows, employees may be permitted two (2) 15- minute paid work breaks each day, one in each half day worked. There may be instances in which employees are not able to be released for breaks, but reasonable efforts will be made to schedule work activities to allow such breaks. Rest breaks are important and employees are encouraged to find time for their breaks. If employees are having difficulty finding time for their breaks because of workload, they may seek help from their supervisor. Employees who work more than four (4) but less than eight (8) hours may be permitted one (1) 15-minute paid work break. Work breaks may not be used as part of the scheduled work day for the purpose of coming in late or leaving early. Work breaks are considered to be time worked and are paid. Employees will not receive additional compensation for missed and/or interrupted work breaks.

Work Breaks for the purpose of this clause shall mean the daily smoko break(s) during ordinary hours Monday to Friday and paid breaks within the first 8 hours on a Saturday but not crib-breaks following overtime between Monday to Friday.
