Weight of evidence definition

Weight of evidence means a structured framework approach for evaluating and assigning the relative or proportional contributions or weightings to each of multiple lines of evidence influencing the qualitative or quantitative estimation of risk or hazard in a risk assessment.
Weight of evidence means that all scientific data bearing on the classification of a chemical shall be considered together, including the results of valid in vitro tests, relevant animal data, and human experience such as epidemiological and clinical studies, and well-documented case reports and observations. See Appendix A, Chapter A.0.3 of the standard for a further discussion on how to use the weight of evidence for classification.
Weight of evidence a term of art, means a description of the likelihood that a chemical is a human carcinogen based on evaluation of tumor data from human or animal studies and examination of relevant supporting information, including any of the following information:

Weight of evidence approach means that findings from a large number of studies, including from studies in freely available literature, some of which have contradicting findings, are weighed against each other.
