Voluntary overtime definition

Voluntary overtime is overtime that is assigned by a Supervisor to employees who volunteer for the work.

Voluntary overtime means work performed on a voluntary basis outside the ordinary hours of work. Voluntary means exactly that, and an employee has the right to refuse an offer to work voluntary overtime in any circumstances.
Voluntary overtime. Voluntary scheduled overtime is defined as work available outside of normal working hours in a particular trade that the Employer determines is available at least 48 hours in advance of the necessary overtime. The Employer will notify employees of voluntary scheduled overtime as soon as practicable. The Employer may offer voluntary overtime with less than 48 hours notice. Each quarter, bargaining unit employees shall notify the Employer in writing of their desire to be offered voluntary overtime for the upcoming quarter. The Employer shall determine eligibility for voluntary scheduled overtime based upon the employee’s individual performance review from the prior quarter and may disqualify an employee for poor performance, attendance, or disciplinary issues. Removal from the list may be grieved only up to Step 3 of the grievance procedure. Overtime shall be equalized among the employees signed up on the voluntary overtime list to the extent practicable within each craft. Each craft coordinator shall track offers of overtime opportunities among employees in descending order of seniority. All refused overtime shall be charged as worked. The next overtime opportunity shall be offered to the next person on the list, in descending order of seniority, not withstanding that the Employer may override the overtime list to assign overtime to specific employees as needed to complete particular work assignments.
