Unsaturated soil definition

Unsaturated soil means soil in which the pore spaces contain water at less than atmospheric pressure, as well as air and other gases.

Examples of Unsaturated soil in a sentence

  • Unsaturated soil surrounding the drainfield is extremely effective at removing disease-causing viruses, bacteria, and parasites.

  • Unsaturated soil has pores containing both air and water so aerobic microorganisms living in the soil can effectively treat the wastewater as it travels through the____________.

  • Unsaturated soil testing is costly, time consuming, and difficult to conduct.

  • Unsaturated soil moisture redistribution and capillary rise effects are calculated using the van Genuchten–Mualem equations and soil hydraulic properties (Wösten and van Genuchten, 1988).

  • Unsaturated soil in this zone is categorized according to the degree of saturation as shown in Figure 2.3. Above the water table, pore water pressure will be negative with respect to atmospheric pressure, but immediately above the water table, a new zone, defined as capillary fringe, where degree of saturation is approximately 100 percentages.

  • Unsaturated soil sampling followed by the appropriate laboratory analyses (reported on a dry weight basis) to determine the nature, degree and extent of contaminated soil.

  • Unsaturated soil is determined by seasonal high water table evaluations, which is underestimated because methods do not account for capillary action.

  • Unsaturated soil regions have significant changes of pore water pressure distribution from the rainfall infiltration.
