Under penalty of perjury means any statement, oral, written, certified as true and correct under penalty of perjury, pursuant to CNMI PL 3-48, 6 CMC § 3306, and which precludes the necessity of a notarized affidavit for written statements, as in the following example:
Under penalty of perjury. “Perjury” means lying to a judge, and it is a crime. If you swear that a statement is true “under penalty of perjury” and you made the statement knowing that it was false, you could be prosecuted in criminal court.
